What Is Reiki? And How Can It Help You?
Perhaps you've heard about Reiki but are unsure what it is. Maybe you're contemplating Reiki but are uncertain if it's a good fit for you. Or perhaps your physician has recommended Reiki as a supplemental therapy to your current medical treatments.
In this article, we deal with what is Reiki and the meaning of the word "Reiki".
Using Reiki on oneself or on others is non-invasive, safe, and gentle. It is a hands-on healing technique that can be used on oneself or on others. Rather than applying pressure, manipulation, or massage, it works by channeling spiritual energy into the body to alleviate physical ailments. It is, however, much more than just a physical therapy session or two. It is a comprehensive method to balancing, mending, and harmonizing all aspects of a person's being—body, mind, emotions, and spirit—as well as encouraging personal and spiritual awareness and advancement.

The Japanese term "Reiki" (pronounced Ray Kee) is often translated as "Universal Life Force Energy," "God-directed Life Force Energy," or "Spiritual Energy." The term is composed of two parts: "Rei" translates as "intelligence and knowledge of the entire Universe" or "divine environment." It refers to the Supreme Intelligence that directs the Universe's creation and functioning; the wisdom that emanates from God (or the Source, the Creator, the Universe, or All That Is), which is all-knowing and comprehends the necessity for and causes of all problems and difficulties, as well as how to resolve them. "Ki" is the vital energy that flows through all living things—plants, animals, and people—and is found in various forms in everything around us, even rocks and inanimate objects.
Japanese Kanji (Japanese alphabet) calligraphy depicts the notion of Reiki in two slightly different ways, depending on the style of writing chosen. An older, more traditional understanding of the word Reiki is depicted on the left, whilst a more contemporary interpretation of the word Reiki is depicted on the right in the artwork.
Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926), a Japanese Buddhist priest, discovered a method of accessing and using spiritual energy, as well as a method of passing this ability on to others. In Japan, the term Reiki refers to any form of healing that makes use of spiritual energy; however, in the West, when we speak of Reiki, we are typically referring to the form of healing practice developed by a Japanese Buddhist priest. The Usui Reiki Ryoho, which translates as the Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method, was founded by Mikao Usui in the last years of his life, and has now been known around the world as simply "Reiki."
In general, Reiki has the potential to provide numerous beneficial effects on your overall well-being. Although some preliminary research indicates promising results, additional research is necessary to determine the benefits of Reiki.
Always consult your physician before using Reiki to treat a medical condition. Bear in mind that Reiki is a complimentary therapy that should be used in conjunction with conventional treatment. Additionally, you may use it in conjunction with other complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, or counseling.
