When we think about having surgery, it's natural for our minds and bodies to react with apprehension and worry. Minor or big, the prospect of surgery may fill one with dread and worry. Praying calms our minds and bodies when we have to put our lives in the hands of doctors despite the fear of the unknown. Make use of surgery prayer as you prepare for surgery, either alone or with loved ones.
Give thanks to God for the miracle of modern medicine and pray for a speedy recovery from the procedure. Before undergoing surgery, there are a variety of prayers one might say for oneself, one's family, one's friends, and one's community.
Dear God, today, I am facing a surgery that makes me feel anxious and afraid. I ask for Your protection as I enter the surgery room and the doctors work on my body. Please guide the surgeon’s hand as they perform the task that is set before them. Give them wisdom in every decision they make and help me to rely on You for strength.
Let me feel Your presence go with me as I go into the doctor’s office today. Be with me as You have promised. You have promised never to leave nor forsake me. Stay with me when I wake and go through the healing and recovery process.

Thank You that I do not have to fear anything because You are with me. Please allow this surgery to go well and let me serve You all the rest of the days of my life. Help me to endure until the end when Jesus returns. I trust You, Lord, in every season and every moment. Be with me today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

In the face of anxiety and worry before to surgery, prayer should always be the first line of defense. When we pour out our emotions to the Lord, we may also add words of praise and gratitude to help us remember His kindness and faithfulness.
Before, during, and after surgery, we may pray scripture over our loved ones and friends. These verses serve as a gentle reminder that God is more than capable of handling our problems and concerns if we just pray and surrender them to Him.
